If he can prove that this one event didn’t happen, “the whole house of cards falls.” From there, the film follows Strobel from one expert to another in his quest to “solve” the mystery of the resurrection.Ĭould the resurrection be a late invention? He consults an archeologist-turned-priest. He doesn’t want “religious truth” he wants true truth.Īs he begins his investigation, a colleague at the Tribune tells him that the resurrection is the central tenet of the faith. If God isn’t real on the outside (objectively), then Strobel doesn’t want him on the inside (subjectively). The point of the film isn’t that God is “living on the inside.” The point is that Jesus is living on the outside-risen from the dead, ruling at the right hand of the Father. While the movie is based on a true story, the narrative ultimately grounds itself in something larger than one man’s experience with God.

Historical figures become intricate characters in Alcott's hands." - Seattle Post Intelligencer "We're all riveted by a tragedy, but what happens to the survivors? The Dressmaker is that rare novel that asks not only what comes next but what we would do in a morally unspeakable situation-and how we live with those choices. I can't stop thinking about this book and its characters." -Sarah Jio, author of The Violets of March and The Bungalow " research into the Titanic, its sinking, and the hearings subsequently prompted is impeccable. It's also a very valuable contribution to our understanding of the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic, and its aftermath." -Isabel Wolff, author of A Vintage Affair "Kate Alcott's The Dressmaker is a beautifully told story that examines loss, love, couture and the choices we make when everything is on the line-all sewn together into one compelling read. None of my children have ever liked the paper covers on hardback and always remove them, so I was pleased to see that this has a nice cover underneath (some hardbacks just have plain cloth covers, but this looks good with or without the slip cover). Both are hardback, with good quality paper and includes the original books: Flower Fairies of the Spring, Flower Fairies of the Summer, Flower Fairies of the Autumn, Flower Fairies of the Winter, Flower Fairies of the Garden, Flower Fairies of the Trees, Flower Fairies of the Wayside and A Flower Fairy Alphabet. My daughter has the earlier version and I purchased the newer version for my niece, as they both adore it. This is a new edition of a previously published book. Their love for each other is portrayed as unoriginal and irresponsible. One thing that I hate about Hazel and Augustus’ relationship is how sped up their feelings are. I truly cannot comprehend why so many people adore this book… what’s the appeal? I find none of the elements in the book captivating, or interesting. To be honest, I am not quite sure why this novel aggravated me so much, to the point that I can still rant about it years later. The plot is not much better, as it has the same boring and overused plot used in YA fiction. To start, the character’s personality is paper-thin and easily detestable. Recommendation : Let me just warn you, I have a LOT of opinions about this book. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.(Goodreads) Summary: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. Publisher: Published January 10th 2012 by Dutton Books Keep reading to find out what else I think! I had also seen the movie, and was not at all impressed. When I initially read this book many years ago, I was confused by all the rave and excitement surrounding its release. I know this post is very late, considering the book was published in 2014, but I will finally be expressing my opinion on this book. Hello Bookworms, today I will be reviewing the Fault in Our Stars. Does it matter that it’s being swept out of sight? Artists Hito Steyerl, Ingrid Burrington, Trevor Paglen, Olia Lialina, Julian Oliver and Danja Vasiliev explain why they’re compelled to show us what’s going on beneath the surface. In this first episode, Invisible Networks, James looks for the hidden, physical infrastructure of the internet. In this series of four programmes, he updates Berger’s Ways of Seeing, inviting contemporary artists to explore how the technology we use every day has transformed the ways in which we see and are seen. His work has been exhibited at the V&A, the Barbican, in galleries worldwide, and online. James Bridle writes about the development of technology on our lives. How do we see the world around us now? And, who are the artists urging us to look more closely? Of course, that was before the internet, smartphones, and social media took hold. The concept of the female nude is discussed by Berger. He raises questions about the hidden ideologies that the visual images carry, especially concerning the concept of the female nude. In 1972, Berger’s seminal TV series and book changed perceptions of art and set out to reveal the language of images. Berger is also critical of traditional Western representations of cultural aesthetics. “The way we see things is affected by what we know, or what we believe” – John Berger.
